The annual Chryslers on the Murray car show in Wodonga was held on Fri 15th to Sun 17th March this year and was attended by a few club members.
Simon Palmieri took his 1970 Valiant Hardtop and Steve Paino took his 1972 VH Charger 340. Joining them was Brian Jay, Gino Smarelli, el presidente Adam Furniss, Peter Stewart, Eric Calleja and Johnny Precise (aka Johnny Precisionauto). We all headed up on Friday morning, with a couple of guys stopping at Violet Town for breaky, and then the whole group meeting at BP Glenrowan for lunch.
We then headed into Wodonga, and settled in for an afternoon of drinking, with Brian and Eric providing a few beverages, including some Sri Lankan mulled coconut palm wine. If you have never had the experience of this wonderful drink….then I recommend you don’t. Brian made up for it though with Whiskey….lots of Whiskey.
Friday night saw us trekking over to the pub across from the motel for dinner, with everyone raving about the bbq pork ribs. Then we went for a bit of a cruise into Albury, where the town was overrun with all sorts of Mopars…..Chryslers, Dodges, Plymouths…..Australian and American. An amazing sight to behold.
Saturday morning we were up bright and early thanks to an alarm clock called Johnny Precise. We were at Gateway Lakes for the show by 8.30am where there were approx 930 Mopar related vehicles on display.
One of those cars belonged to Fred, a friend of Noel Watson, who drove his beautiful 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger. A very impressive vehicle. It was great to catch up with Noel at the show.
By this stage, the Friday night drinking had caught up with Johnny Precise who had to attend the First Aid tent, where he received the best medical attention from a very lovely he/she/they (we still don’t know which).
At about 1pm we headed over to the Ettamogah Pub for a Valiant photo shoot and more drinking.
The weather was kind, and hit about 30 degrees, so we headed back to the motel for a dip in the pool, more whiskey and beer, and then a cruise back into Albury for dinner and watching the locals come out with their tough cars to join the Mopar brigade.
Sunday morning we were back at the show early for a couple more hours, and then headed back to Melbourne after a great weekend.
Steve and I attend this show every year, however having Brian, Gino, Peter, John, Eric and Adam give up their All Fords Day weekend to come with us was absolutely fantastic. I’m sure they all thought it was worthwhile, and we’re counting down the days to next year.
Thank you guys for making it a great weekend, and thanks to your wives for allowing you to come along.
Cheers
Simon P.
