September's MidWeek Runners headed there on a grey morning, were welcomed warmly by Judy and Kerryn, Current owner Judy took on this extraordinary property a few years back, and with her family has worked hard to restore and maintain it, but, as she admits, it's a work in progress.
Once our 9 club cars and assorted moderns filled the car park under the trees, Judy invited us into a curved mud brick and bush pole structure where we sat at a long table and heard the story of the Woop Woop Sculpture Gardens.
It was a labour of love for the original owners Andy and Melva, who opened it in 2000. By 2021, Andy's health had deteriorated and then Covid, alas, finished him off. They had a beautiful and quirky vision. On a large bush block backing down a gentle slope to a creek, they created a dry-lands garden, including 8 species of wattles now ablaze with Spring colour. Scattered amongst this beauty, however, is the quirkiness of Andy's creations an impressive range of metal and wood fabrication skills.
After encouraging us to spread out and enjoy ourselves, Judy and Kerryn busied themselves and produced a morning tea of proper teapots, plunger coffee, apple or apricot pie with cream, and scones.
Eventually, we were back on the road heading for the Five Flags Hotel at Campbell's Creek, where 36 of us sat down for lunch. On the menu were customary hearty pub meals, but the specials board caught your reporter's eye. He can commend the octopus linguine as quite delicious.
Thanks as always to Pam and the team for another memorable jaunt, and Drew and the committee for part payment of admissions. It's a good thing to stimulate the economy way out in Woop Woop.
Thanks to Greg Brown for another wonderful report
