February Midweek Run – Sculptures in the Vines

It was a perfect late summer morning as members of the Midweek Run Group headed out to meet at Bourkie's Bake House in Woodend. Excitement grew as they reflected upon the "Award Winning" vanilla slices, humorously dubbed "snot blocks" by a British visitor.

Once at the bakery, the atmosphere buzzed with chatter as mid-week run enthusiasts mingled. After a bit of chaos reminiscent of herding cats, the convoy headed to the Hanging Rock Winery and Vineyard in Newham. The heat prompted many to seek shade while admiring the sculptures among the vines.

Those interested in tasting the wines lined up at the cellar door, where friendly staff poured samples and informed drivers about their limits. One sparkling wine stood out, having won an international competition and refined since then.

As the tasting ended, a warning was issued about branches dropping from a nearby eucalypt, prompting a quick exodus from the bar. Your reporter parked away from danger and enjoyed a leisurely return with a clinking bag.

The convoy then drove through stunning vistas to Lancefield, where they enjoyed a welcome lunch at the Lost Watering Hole. Your reporter extends thanks to Pam and the MWR Team on behalf of the 39 participants for another delightful run.

Thanks to Greg Brown for his account of what sounded like a great day out.
