May Recap : Goodbye to a friend & Biggest Morning Tea Fundraiser

Donnie McGregor Memorial Cruise

The overwhelming turnout for long-time club member Donnie McGregor, who sadly passed away on the 1st of May, was a true reflection of the high esteem in which he was held.

Around 200 vehicles, trucks, and motorbikes joined the memorial Cruise on May 16th, travelling from the Clarkefield Railway Station to our clubrooms alongside a massive crowd of people gathered to honour his memory. Donnie's family expressed their deep gratitude for the clubroom setup, the service provided, and everyone who came along to show their support.

Moving tributes were paid by his family members, who spoke wonderfully about his positive impact as a dedicated family man and a community-minded friend to all.

He was remembered by many as a true gentleman who never swore or spoke a bad word about anyone-just a thoroughly lovely man. In every way, it was an excellent and fitting farewell to a well-loved, long-serving member.

May MidWeek Run: Biggest Morning Tea

On Wednesday, May 27th, our Mid Week Run gathered at the clubrooms for a Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea. Despite the threatening skies, our advance setup team had everything looking beautiful, and 39 members and friends soon streamed in laden with delicious dishes.

Food & Festivities
The morning kicked off at 10:00 am with freshly brewed tea, coffee, and an incredible array of sweet and savory treats. It was wonderful to see members who can't usually make our regular Mid Week Runs. At noon, we extended the event by serving a fantastic lunch:

Games & Prizes
Our roving games master Brian A kept everyone entertained with a memory game and a lolly-jar guess, while Gary C acted as quiz master with a set of puzzling questions. Roger P took home the Door Prize (a Spirit Barrel). In our raffle, the lucky winners were:

Fundraising & Looking Forward
We are thrilled to announce we raised $740.00 on the day! We have received an additional donation since, and we will pass donation barrels around at the next club meeting for those who couldn't attend. Even better news: the committee will be matching the final total and doubling the amount raised before it is sent to the Cancer Council! Vivien and I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make this day so special. As we have been organizing this event for some time now, we will be stepping back from coordinating it in the future. If anyone would like to step up and organize this event for 2027, please see one of the committee members.

Thank you all,
Pam Amezdroz, Mid Week Run Group
