A great day was had by all who attended the June Midweek Run to the historic Tooborac Hotel and Brewery.
A jovial bunch assembled at the clubrooms, for a quick coffee before we set off for a very enjoyable and scenic tour from Gisborne to Lancefield via Riddells Creek. Our Road Captain Rodger had mapped out our trip through some interesting terrain.
The Lancefield Corner Store has seldom seen the likes of our group, to say it was cosy would be an understatement. Dave the proprietor had prepared a generous display of sweets and most of us managed to indulge in some of them with our coffee.
It was a particularly chilly morning and we were happy to partake in the sweets and coffee and of course, a chat off the road for a while.
We had a scenic drive up through the winding road, surrounded by the incredible volcanic marbles that nature had delivered many years earlier. Arriving at the historic Tooborac Hotel, the only working hotel in Victoria to have a historic listing with the National Trust.
The kitchen did not disappoint us, even though we were a large group, swollen even more by another couple of members that met us there.
After lunch we were invited to take the brewery tour, which most of our number did. I have a suspicion that this was the main reason for our large numbers on this run. I personally did not take part in the tour, but those that did said it was informative and enjoyable.
As they drifted back into the dining room many of our members enjoyed looking at the collection of historic photographs of the hotel and surroundings, in the foyer.
We had 35 people on this run with at least 6 classic cars.
Our next Midweek Run will be on 26th of July to the TAA Museum.
